Today, nearly all publicity photos have been digitally retouched. When dealing with NPR personalities, photo enhancement needed to strike a delicate balance between preserving authenticity, improving image quality, respecting NPR brand values, and addressing the subject’s personal requests. The goal was to make people look their best — not create an artificially-enhanced version of them. The subjects remained the ultimate judge: if they weren’t pleased with their image, the shots couldn’t be used effectively.
